Race for Cyberspace

Volunteers

Thank you for volunteering for Race for Cyberspace 2010. Below are descriptions of the roles we most need.

Please contact your room parent to sign up!

Ticket Curator (1 volunteer - 4-6 hours at your convenience) - week of March 15:
1. Collect Prize Mall Tickets and personalized envelopes delivered from classroom
2. Cut and place pre-labeled tickets into each student's envelope
3. Return envelopes containing tickets to teacher by 2 pm, Monday, March 22nd
Note: Number of tickets are proportionate to donations received, and will vary accordingly.

Thirst Quencher (1 volunteer per class) - 1.5 hours day of Race:
1. Arrive 15 minutes before race time
2. Pour water in cups at one of the water stations along the track
3. Supervise the water station to prevent water fights
4. Ensure Water Station is replenished before next race

Lap Coach (volunteers per class: K-3: 4, 4-5: 6) - 2 hours day of Race:
Get Ready…
1. Wear something easy for your students to identify you (a large sombrero, balloons, Hawaiian shirt, etc.)
2. Bring Scissors (to cut ice pops) and spray bottles
3. Arrive at the classroom 15 minutes prior to race time
Get Set…
4. Collect from the teacher:
- Safety pins
- Personalized race bibs for students in your group
- Ticket Envelopes for students in your group
5. Attach race bibs to the BACK of students' shirts. Bring ticket envelopes for each student in the group.
Note: Lap Counters will hold the ticket envelopes until the students are finished running.
6. Walk students to race track
7. While the students are warming, pick up markers from Race Headquarters (RaceQ)
Note: RaceQ is located by the track, under the awning
Go!!!
8. Stand by colored flag designated for your class
9. Cross off laps on the students' race bib as each lap is completed
Note: Lap counter must remain at the colored flag; do not run laps with your child
Cool down
10. Help students remove their race bibs
11. Alphabetize bibs
12. Return bibs, safety pins and markers to RaceQ
13. Distribute ice pops to students from cooler next to your flag (use scissors you brought to cut open!)
Note: Additional ice pops are available at RaceQ if needed
14. Give each student their personalized ticket envelope
15. Escort students to Prize Mall area & help students match prize number with ticket box number, as prizes can get moved accidentally.

Note: Thirst Quencher and Lap Coach are separate roles; you cannot be both
